Iphigenia Crash Land Falls on the Neon Shell that was Once Her Heart
“I want to mourn them, Violeta. I want to free them of their pain.
I want your scars on me.” -Iphigenia
Design Statement
“The women of Juárez are in war, and they will be condemned to this battle scene until they are served justice, and put to rest.” -Isabella Rebollo
This is a play about power, priviledge and ignorance. A juxaposition should be felt between the living and the dead, the victims and the victimizers, between knowledge and ignorance. The atmosphere should feel hostile, like a ticking time bomb, a place where death is just around every corner. No crime that happens here is pretty, regardless of how morbidly romantic the setting can be. Why have all these women died, and why does the death of one glorified woman feel like the solution? The women of Juárez are in war, and they will be condemned to this battle scene until they are put to rest.
